Backup of difficult / unusual discs

Some DVD video discs use unusual track layouts or have copyright protection systems to prevent their backup.

If you have a disc that will not back up and this help topic has been launched for you,  try the following:

  1. Restart the Pocket DVD Wizard.
  2. Select the DVD and track as you would normally.
  3. Run through the options,  again as you would normally.
  4. When you get to the 'Start DVD backup' screen,  click the options tab in the menu bar and select 'Global Input Options'.
  5. A new window will appear,  at the top of this window you will see Index: followed by the first track selected.
  6. Change this track to the track with the largest time against it.
  7. Click 'OK' to exit this windows,  then 'Start DVD backup' to start the backup.

At this stage,  the software may start the backup.

If however the software gives the same error,  don't panic.  The software will know this is the second time the error has occured,  and make some automatic adjustments.

Allow the software to re-start again,  and select the DVD,  the track,  and all the options again.  You do not need to enter the 'Global Input Options' area the second time unless you want to select a different sub-track.

This time,  before pressing the 'Start DVD Backup' button, allow the DVD to play for 20-30 seconds so it is fully playing the track you want to convert,  then click the 'Start DVD Backup' button.

Usually the Pocket DVD Wizard will then start the encoding process.

Resetting the original settings

After convering a difficult disc,  you should reset the original settings.  Simply start a DVD playback,  and on the preview screen click 'options' then 'reset defaults' to restore the original settings.
