If you have a new PalmOne Lifedrive or other recent high resolution Palm device,  there are some specific issues you need to be aware of when using the Pocket DVD Wizard.

Support for high resolution and PalmOne LifeDrive

Support for standard Palm OS devices was added in version 4.3 of the software,  specific support for the LifeDrive was added in v4.4.

The Pocket DVD Wizard requires the installation of the third party plug-ins to add support for these devices,  and a media player able to play back avi files.

Although the LifeDrive does have its own player,  it only supports the ASF file format which is covered by certain restrictive patents.

Copying video files to your LifeDrive

When you use the LifeDrive Manager to copy the video files to your LifeDrive it will ask you if you would like to copy,  or format the files for your device.

You should select 'copy' as the files do not need converting to play in most popular media players and a conversion may reduce quality,  increase the file size and take additional time.

We recommend you create a new folder on your LifeDrive for the videos (for example 'AVI Videos') so the files do not appear in the standard media player,  but can be found easily using your selected media player.

Suitable Playback Software

We recommend you try a few playback applications as some offer more features than others,  and some simply play back video at higher quality levels on different devices.  There are a number of free video playback applications available.

Please refer to http://www.pocketdvdwizard.com/palm.html for details of recommended playback applications.

The Pocket DVD Wizard output has been tested with MMPlayer and The Core Pocket Media Player.

Our tests have shown better results with The Core Pocket Media Player (which at the time of writing was also free) so if you do not already have a playback application which can play avi files on your Palm we would suggest you try this first.

Details and links to the players can be found at http://www.pocketdvdwizard.com/palm.html

Why do we not use / support the included media player on the LifeDrive?

The included media player uses the ASF file type for media.

Our tests have shown this to be a lower quality format with larger output file sizes than the AVI format produced by the Pocket DVD Wizard.

Using the default settings in the Pocket DVD Wizard,  you can unormally fit over 20 hours of video on your device!

We recommend you use the AVI format so you can fit more high quality video on your LifeDrive,  and use software like the Core Pocket Media Player to play back the files.
