File File transfer taking a long time
Previous Topic  Next Topic

Question.

When i try to copy the converted dvd (wmv file) to my Pocket PC,  it takes hours,  often hanging in the process.

Why?

Answer.

Active Sync and Windows Media Player both offer the facility to convert files transferred to your Pocket PC to a 'suitable' format during the transfer to your Pocket PC.

Unfortunately,  with video files this function seems to be less reliable, oftens results in a lower quality output and the process can take several hours for a full length dvd video track.

Therefore,  you will probably want to turn this option off as it is not required,  the output file is already in a suitable format for the Pocket PC,  and does not need re-processing.

To do this in Actve Sync, select 'Tools' in the menu bar,  then 'Options'.  Select the 'Rules' tab in the next window,  and then 'Conversion Settings'.   In the next window remove the check mark from the option box to turn of the conversion option.

Then,  follow the help topic for transfering files usign ActiveSync,  you should find the file transfer takes just a few minutes instead of hours.
